Digestive Enzymes For Beauty

Feb 19, 2013 by

jason

Digestive enzymes are not only great for internal health, they’re also great for healthy skin, nails, and hair. Many of Hollywood’s A-List celebs take supplemental enzymes or use cosmetic products formulated with them to slow or reverse the signs of aging. So how do they work?

Enzymes are found in plants and animals,  but when exposed to heat they are destroyed.  Eating a diet that is mostly raw will supply the body with enzymes that will help break down food into smaller particles to allow for better absorption of nutrients. For those who cook their food, digestive enzyme supplements are a great addition to meals. A healthy internal system leads to healthy skin, hair, and nails. You are what eat.

When applied topically to the skin, enzymes break up dead lack luster surface cells to reveal healthier skin cells. Bromelain and papain are enzymes found in fruits, often used in cosmetic products like masks and serums to clarify the skin and soften lines and wrinkles. Combining enzymes into a daily cosmetic regime can allow moisture and active ingredients to penetrate deeper and work more effectively.

I personally take enzyme supplements almost daily. When I know I am going to consume meals low in them, I pop 2-3 pills depending on how large the meal is. Most of my friends swear by the weight loss potential of supplementing with digestive enzymes. I’ve never been overweight, so personally I can’t say if that’s true or not.

Valentines Day Poems

How Do I Love Thee?

How Do I Love Thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of Being an ideal Grace.  I love thee to the level of everyday’s Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight. I love thee freely, as men strive for Right; I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.  I love thee with the passion put to use In my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With my lost saints,- I love thee with the Breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life!- and, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death.  ~Elizabeth Barret Browning

Valentine Smile

On Valentine’s Day we think of those Who make our lives worthwhile, Those gracious, friendly people who We think of with a smile. I am fortunate to know you, That’s why I want to say, To a rare and special person: Happy Valentine’s Day! ~Joanna Fuchs

I Love You

I love thee – I love thee, ‘Tis all that I can say It is my vision in the night, My dreaming in the day.  ~Thomas Hood

I Knew A Woman

I knew a woman, lovely in her bones, When small birds sighed, she would sigh back at them; Ah, when she moved, she moved more ways than one: The shapes a bright container can contain! Of her choice virtues only gods should speak, Or English poets who grew up on Greek (I’d have them sing in chorus, cheek to cheek.)  How well her wishes went! She stroked my chin, She taught me Turn, and Counter-turn, and stand; She taught me Touch, that undulant white skin: I nibbled meekly from her proffered hand; She was the sickle; I, poor I, the rake, Coming behind her for her pretty sake (But what prodigious mowing did we make.)  Love likes a gander, and adores a goose: Her full lips pursed, the errant note to seize; She played it quick, she played it light and loose; My eyes, they dazzled at her flowing knees; Her several parts could keep a pure repose, Or one hip quiver with a mobile nose (She moved in circles, and those circles moved.)  Let seed be grass, and grass turn into hay: I’m martyr to a motion not my own; What’s freedom for? To know eternity. I swear she cast a shadow white as stone. But who would count eternity in days? These old bones live to learn her wanton ways: (I measure time by how a body sways.) ~Theodore Roethke

My Valentine

I crave your honesty on this day of love, L ove you whole-heartedly my sweet dove. O ut of the blue you shot from the sky, V ividly, beautifully stunning my eye. E ver adoring you is what I do best, Y our smile, your face and all the rest. O n days like these I truly believe, U and I are meant to be!  Dedicated To Daniel Vigil! ~Crystal L. Callaway

Makeup for Black and White Photography

Model: Anna Volkoff

Doing makeup for black-and-white photography sounds like it’d be a piece of cake, right? Truthfully, it’s not. Most of the time, the model(s) in the photos look like there’s no structure to their face or body. People forget to add dimension and life after they’ve slathered on all that foundation. So pretty much, black-and-white photography can wash a person out. Doing makeup that is soft and subtle, usually doesn’t work… unless the person was born with perfect bone structure, which will show nicely on camera.

So simply put, contour the heck out of that face and body! Contour with deeper shades of bronzers and blushes. Using matte colored powders work great because they look more naturally. Using too much shimmer can make areas look very white and sparkly. When doing lips, go for deeper shades that will show up on camera. Unless you have small lips, then I recommend lining the lips with a deep liner and follow with a natural or bright colored lipstick to create fullness.

For eyes that pop, fill those brows in with a brown shade to draw more attention to the eyes. Also, add color to that crease, but make sure to blend. A hard line can be seen if colors are blended – but some people do like that look. For those who have a hooded lid, wear plenty of eye liner. The darker the eye liner, the more focus will go to the eyes. False or individual lashes are great to make the eyes look bigger… and finish with black mascara to really make the eyes pop.

The key to black-and-white is creating dimension! Contour, contour, contour.

Simple Detox Program

Feb 7, 2013 by

 jp

We live in such a toxic world that our body’s become a container for all the toxins in the air we breathe, food we consume, and products we use. If you live in LA, it’s inevitable. Sometimes there’s so much pollution that the horizon is completely brown. Whether or not you live in a polluted city or not, your body still accumulates toxins. and in order to keep all the organs and pipes in your system working properly… You must detox!

Detoxification of the body is a very ancient healing practice that has been around for thousands of years. Some cultures around the world would fast and only drink water. Others would take herbs to help bind heavy metals and in certain parts of Asian, people would sit in hot springs to draw all the impurities out of their lymphatic system. Detoxing the body is essential to a healthy vibrant energy that will radiant from within.

So what are the benefits of detoxing the body? When the body is clean, it can function better, right? Kind of like a car, you take out the old oil and replace it with new oil. Like a car, your body needs maintenance and cleansing it will definitely allow it to run smoother. A clean body leads to better circulation of blood and the lymphatic system. When circulation of the body is more active, your body will be able to eliminate toxins more efficiently and also repair cell damage much faster. Furthermore, detoxing the body will lead to an increase in the body’s metabolic rate, which is great for those who want to keep a slim figure.

Here’s a very simple detox program that anyone can do:

  • Consult with your holistic doctor
  • Take 500mg of  niacin (vitamin B3) 3 times a day before meals.  Niacin is a natural B-vitamin that aids in the release of toxins from fat cells and opening up capillaries allowing toxins to easily flush out
  • Drink at least a gallon of water a day per day. Adding fresh squeezed lemon juice to your water will help accelerate the detox
  • Bentonite Clay is negatively charged, so when inside the body – it attracts positively charged particles to help eliminate internal toxins. Can also be applied topically to pull toxins out of the skin. 1-2 tablespoons in a glass of water, 3 times a day
  • Exercise is key to detoxing the body. The more you sweat, the more you release. Take a niacin pill before you head to the gym or go for a run
  • Saunas are great to help the body sweat out the toxins. Dry or regular saunas, sweating it out is key to elimination

Usually when people do a detox program, they do it for a week. For those who are first timers, you might only last a few days. Do what works for you until you can build up to a week. During a detox program, keep your meals healthy and green. Stay away from processed foods, alcohol, refined sugar, meat, dairy, and pastries. The cleaner you are, the more energy you’ll have!

Kourtney Reppert on the Ricki Lake Show

RickiLake2:5

rickilake2:5:13I’ve been working with Kourtney Reppert now for a while… and let me say, it’s been an amazing adventure. Watching a celebrity blossom into the woman she is today is quite gratifying. Especially, when you were there since day one (when she moved to LA). Feb. 5, 2013, she was styled and made up for a Ricki Lake episode. A little nervous, but I think it’s from all the excitement 😉 I must say, she definitely shined when she walked on stage. Looked like Jessica Simpson’s double walked on lol!

Working with her is like 2 long time friends catching up… it’s fun and we have jokes for days. Frankly, it doesn’t feel like work at all! Feels like old friends just catching up. Anyways, here are photos before the show and during the show. Lots of fun… Hope you all like!
